PhAST is a structured, systematic and explicit phonological and phonemic awareness skills programme which aims to develop core foundational skills for decoding.

It is closely aligned to Jolly Phonics, since the research emphasizes the importance of teaching phonological awareness skills along with phonics and that phonological and phonemic awareness activities should include letter symbols as soon as learners have made the letter-sound association.

If implemented along with effective phonics and vocabulary instruction, PhAST may have the potential to improve the reading results and academic trajectory of many of our Grade 1 to 3 learners.
